Rene and Jose van Vilsteren started Hollewand Farm in 1989. They moved to Canning, NS from the Netherlands in 1988. Hollewand Farm is a pig farm. Originally, the farm was focused on raising weaner pigs but they have been transitioning to a breeder farm which now has roughly 1,000 sows. Their daughter Claudia works on the farm part-time, while also working full-time at Eden Valley Poultry. She says, “Even though I do not plan to take over the business after my parents retire, I will always have the pigs to thank for introducing me to the agricultural industry; an industry that I believe to be very important in many ways!” Claudia graduated with a degree in Animal Science from the Agricultural Campus in Truro.
