Originally started in 1893, Melvin Farms Limited is a mixed vegetable farm. They grow cauliflower, cabbage, green onions, spinach, and leeks. The farm is owned and operated by Richard, Stephen, and Allan Melvin and their families. Together, they manage about 600 acres of land for their crop production. You can find Melvin’s products under the name Vitabite in local farm markets and retailers across Atlantic Canada.

Cauliflower is actually a flower that has not fully developed yet. The leaves of cauliflower are edible but have a stronger taste than the florets. Cauliflower comes in a variety of colours and green cauliflower is produced when you cross cauliflower with broccoli.

Allan loves being a farmer because there is never a dull moment, and each day brings new challenges and opportunities. He also loves the pride that comes with providing food to local communities.
