The picturesque Musquodoboit Valley in Nova Scotia is home to the Teerling family: Christiane, Jan, and their sons Ian and Cedric. Originally from Germany, they harbored dreams of living and working on a Canadian farm. In 2019, their dream materialized when they discovered the ideal property—Lindsay Lake Farms.
At Lindsay Lake Farms, the Teerlings engage in a diverse range of activities, including raising livestock, wild blueberry management and harvesting, farm bakery operations, event hosting, and forestry involvement.
Christiane and Jan brought a wealth of experience spanning 25 years in forestry, farming, butchering, and catering, which has profoundly influenced the development of their farm and business in Nova Scotia. Their background, coupled with their heavy equipment from Germany, has been crucial in adapting the farmland to suit their needs. The family has completed projects such as road construction, pasture clearing, fence building, and sustainable lumber harvesting from their forests to support their growth and customize the farm to their needs. This was especially helpful for them as they prepared to welcome their newest additions – a herd of 41 Bison.
Lindsay Lake Farm is in a continual state of growth and transformation. In addition to operating a farm bakery, they are planning to establish a Country Store and Kitchen. The Teerling family believes in the profound connection between the land and the food it yields. Their commitment to sustainable and responsible farming practices is the cornerstone of our philosophy. “We treat our land and the animals we care for, not as a resource to be exploited, but as a partner to be nurtured.”
